Psychotherapy, Mindfulness
This is therapy’s basic invitation: to explore. We look inside and outside ourselves for the sake of change and growth, so we can better connect with ourselves, with others, and with life itself.
"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ~ E. M. Forster

"I don't envision a single thing that, when undeveloped and uncultivated, brings about such suffering and stress as the mind....I don't envision a single thing that, when developed and cultivated, brings about such happiness as the mind..."
~ The Buddha (Anguttara Nikaya)

A Bit about My Approach to Therapy
At the heart of my work is mindfulness. This is a practice to which I have been dedicated for over fifteen years through meditation and study of different Buddhist traditions. As a clinical approach, mindfulness brings a spirit of warmth, openness, and non-judgment to the therapy room. What previously felt too painful or shameful to acknowledge becomes less scary, so that we can explore it with sensitivity and tenderness--and begin the healing process.

As someone who came to this country as an adult and grew up speaking another language (Hebrew), I know that there is never just one way of seeing things, never only one perspective. Your culture makes a difference. Your language makes a difference. Your sexual orientation, gender identity. Your DNA. Your soul. Your upbringing. Your particular experience, from birth (or pre-birth) to this very moment. My role is to listen carefully to how you experience the world, how you relate to others, how you think of yourself, and then reflect back to you what I heard so you can decide what you wish to keep, what you wish to adjust, and what you would like to let go of. I always remind clients, however, that caring and compassion are key. Even those elements in you that are clearly unhealthy or unhelpful to your life and mental health--those things about you that you most reject, even despise--even they deserve love. Perhaps especially them. That is the only way they can be healed.
I understand: therapy is always uncharted territory, and therefore may be an intimidating proposition. However, for every moment of discomfort, there are many moments of relief, new hope, and, yes, laughter. My experience has shown me that when the client is committed, life inevitably turns richer, more meaningful and, indeed, happier. This is an exciting journey. I encourage you to brave it.
